We received your e-mail regarding an amateur gamebook based on Dune. While we understand that you are an avid fan of Frank Herbert's fantastic universe, we must insist that you cease all use and distribution of this game. While your intentions, as you expressed them, are good, the reality is that something like this can get out of control, and go far beyond anything you ever intended. It presents too many legal problems for us to allow you to continue with it.
Please understand, we must be very careful to safeguard the integrity of the Dune Universe, as Frank Herbert envisioned it, and as we have continued to promote it. We can't allow anyone to develop games or other Dune-related products on their own, and must strictly control how the Dune universe is presented to the public.
We would appreciate you acknowledging that you are going to immediately cease all use and distribution of this game. We're sorry that our response cannot be otherwise, but we sincerely hope you understand. And we do appreciate your interest in Frank Herbert's fantastic DUNE universe.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Brian Herbert, Kim Herbert, and Byron Herbert
